Subject: [*] 37thResEx 2.0.2; the resources extractor.

37thResEx is a useful application for seeing, extracting, copying and
transferring resources from files. By means of it you may:

- view all types of resources into files;
- view all resources of determined type;
- view resources contents;
- know resources attributes;
- gather resources infos;
- copy individual resources or whole types into already existing files or
into new ones;
- modify attributes of copied resources;
- modify attributes of original resources;
- remove from files individual resource or whole types;
- check the Resource Fork integrity.

37thResEx can also convert resources of type 'snd ', 'TEXT', 'PICT', and
icon families into double-clickable files:
- converted Icon families show theirs own icon on the desktop;
- converted 'snd ' resources become sound files;
- converted 'TEXT' resources become styled text files
- converted 'PICT' resources become pict files.

Last, but not least: by means of hot key, you may achieve directly the
Conversion dialogs, without opening the file-related window. Moreover, if
you launch 37thResEx by using this feature, after completing its job it
quits itself automatically.
37thResEx is Internet Config, Drag Manager, Balloon Help and Navigation
Manager aware, moreover it's Appearance savvy. It requires at least System
7 to run.

Subject: [*] Audio Visualizer v0.8 - An audio frequency spectrum display

Written by Alfred L. Poy
Version 0.8, 10-May-1999

What is Audio Visualizer?
Audio Visualizer is a program which analyzes and displays the frequency
content of sounds, such as music from a CD. The program shows the frequency
content of both the left and right channels of stereo sound. The program
performs its calculations in "real time" and lets you see the results as the
sounds are being played.

System Requirements
The Audio Visualizer program requires a Power Mac to run. I think that it
should work on any machine with at least a 100 MHz PowerPC 601 processor.
It may even run on an 80 MHz PPC 601. System software version 7.5 or later
is recommended.

Subject: [*] Audiocorder 1.0.0 - allows your Mac to act as an audio

Audiocorder is a VOX program which allows your Mac to act as an audio
recorder. It allows you to set the volume that the sound must reach to
begin recording, and the volume at which it should end recording. It also
allows you to set the trigger length for the start and stop values, which
helps you to eliminate recording short bursts of sound or ending the
recording process during a short pause (such as in normal speach).

Each sound file is stored in AIFF format, a Macintosh standard sound
format. The audio is sampled at 22 kHz, with a sample size of 8 bits. The
name of each file contains the date and time (down to seconds) the
recording began.

Subject: [*] Black & Bleu v1.1 - Macintosh error code analyzer/diagnostic

Demo copy of newly released version of Black & Bleu (v1.1). Black & Bleu is an
 Macintosh error code analyzer/diagnostic tool that shows Apple's explanation
 of all of the common and most of the unusual Macintosh OS error codes. Black
 & Bleu(tm) now contains about 3000 error codes. Many have detailed
 explanations and remedies available. This update provides:
 * Enhancement of all "User Oriented" detailed explanations with additional
 information.
 * Addition of a way to distinguish between error codes that use the same
 number.
 * Addition of the name of the system component that is associated with the
 error (such as QuickTime).
 * Addition of a way to list only those errors that are associated with a
 specific system component.
 * Over 400 new error codes.
 * Many more detailed explanations.

 This is the most comprehensive list of error codes and remedies currently
 available anywhere.

 A free error analysis by one of our experienced developers is available for
 errors that don't have a detailed explanation. This service is available to
 anyone, at no charge, even if you haven't purchased Black & Bleu(tm).

 Explanations give users detailed information in 2 categories:
 * a Non-technical User orientation
 * a Programmer orientation

 The Non-technical User explanation is presented in a way that someone without
 a programming background can understand. The Programmer explanation is
 written in VERY technical terms that usually includes source code that
 demonstrates the error. To fully understand the Programmer explanation,
 the user should be familiar with Macintosh programming (in C or C++).

 System Requirements
 Mac OS 7.0 or later
 1.7 MB of disk space
 0.8 MB of RAM

 Availability
 Black & Bleu(tm) is available from our web site: http://www.bleurose.com as a
 free fully functioning demo. The demo can be launched for a total of 3 times
 before it expires. Otherwise it is an exact copy of the commercial version.
 If the license key is purchased and applied to the demo copy, the demo is
 converted directly into the commercial version.

 Price
 $34.00 U.S. dollars (electronic version)
 $46.00 U.S. dollars (CDROM version, includes shipping and applicable taxes)
 Special upgrade pricing is available for current customers.

Subject: [*] BookCovers v1.1.2 (formerly BookMarks v1.0)

This is an update of the program BookMarks v1.0. Mostly the name has
been changed to satisfy Kagi, as there are many programs with the name
BookMarks, so now we have BookCovers v.1.1.3 with new documentation and
graphics and some minor fixes.

BookCovers is a simple book database program, for storing references to
all the books you read. If you have ever got to the point where you
can't remember the name of a book that you read a while back, or maybe
you're at the used book store and you see some good prices on your
favorite authors books, but... hmm...maybe I've already read Tom
Clancy's oldest save the world book. Or did I just see the movie.
(aren't they all made into movies?) Which was it?

Well this program is designed with you in mind. (actually I wrote it for
myself originally) BookCovers will allow you to catalog all your book
reading, past and present. Entering as much info or as little info as
you want. (You must however at least have a title to the book) You can
save the Title of the book, the Authors name, the Type of book it is,
comments of yours about the book, the date you read it or finished
reading it and it also has a place to enter the books ISBN number, if
you like.

BookCovers also has a simple printing facility, allowing you to print
out your listing of books, for those of you who can't have enough paper
to read.

BookCovers comes with itÕs own installer and will automatically install
the program, the Read Me file as well as a Docs file and the Register
Application, onto your hard disk. Before registering BookCovers, you
will be limited to entering only 10 books. The PPC version of BookCovers
requires a PowerPC computer running version 7.6.1 or greater of Mac OS.
A 68k version is in the works and will be offered at a later date.

BookCovers is offered as shareware. You may register BookCovers via the
included Register Application from Kagi. A Single User License costs $10
per user.

To contact the author, that would be myself, Ken Ferris. I can be
reached at <diamondjimdevelopment@kagi.com>.

Finder clippings are a wonderful idea that most people don't use because
they're such a pain to deal with. Ever tried to find the right clipping
among a bunch of "Text Clipping 1", "Text Clipping 2", etc? It's not too
bad with one clipping, but more than a couple leads to long sessions in
the Finder assigning useful names, wasting the time you saved.

ClippingNamer helps you manage clippings. Without leaving your current
program, you can:
*	Automatically assign a new name based on the (text) clipping contents.
*	Automatically create a thumbnail image (icon) for picture clippings.
*	Popup a dialog that lets you see both ClippingNamer's and the Finder's
suggested names, and use either one or a new name you type.
* Save text or picture clippings as SimpleText files instead.
* Append text clippings to existing files/clippings instead of creating
new.

You can set any of these modes (or none) as the default, and invoke any
of the others with modifier keys (completely customizable). There are
several other convenience options as well.

With v1.3.2 you can now:
* Save the clipboard to a clipping via a new FKEY.
* Save the clipboard (or current selection) to a clipping via a new
Contextual menu.
* Both accessories work even without ClippingNamer installed - they are
free standalone utilities.

Use either or both as you wish: they make notetaking much easier in
programs that don't support dragging clippings to the Desktop, such as
Internet Explorer.

ClippingNamer is $10 shareware.  See
<http://www.patchdance.com/shareware.html> for this and other shareware
products. Contact the author at <shareware@patchdance.com>

ConMail is a simple POP3 email client that will periodically check
whether you have waiting email. In case you do, you can use it to launch
your email client. ConMail supports an unlimted number of email accounts.

I have written ConMail because I liked some of the already existing
Macintosh programs that feature similar functionality. Unfortunately, I
do not like the way they display information. Moreover, I could not use
them as they were shareware and I did not feel like paying for them.
Therefore, I decided to write my own program and after some work I came
up with ConMail.

In order to run ConMail you need a PPC Macintosh with Appearance, Open
Transport and Navigation Services installed. If you are running Mac OS
8.5 (Mac OS 7.1?) or later, ConMail should run without any problems.

ConMail is released as public domain.

The source code is included.

No virus infections were found - checked with Disinfectant 3.7.1.

Subject: Media Player for Mac is BUGGY

Hi Digest readers,

Some web sites, including my favorite (Twisted Tunes!) post their content in
Microsoft Media Player format. Since the current version of Media Player for
Mac (3.0b2.990305A) is *still extremely buggy*, I find it hard to access my
favorite tunes. I thought I read somewhere that QT4 would support Media Player
(xxx.asp or xxx.asf) files, but the player does not see downloaded files on my
hard drive. Is there a conversion utility that will turn downloaded Media
Player files into QT, or AIFF, or *anything* that can be played without the
Microsoft Media Player for Mac?

This is not to mention streaming files with Media Player. Can QT do this? It
would be so nice. I thought the RealPlayer software was very stable, so I am
disturbed when more and more sites are going to Media Player as the file type
offered.

I guess media content (and everything else) for Mac users is *still* a low
priority for Microsloth.

I would save the money that you talk about spending on the l2 cache
upgrade and go directly to Vimage or Sonnet G3 upgrade cards that fit in
the L2 Cache slot. The G3 makes the L2 cache redundant since it is
replaced with a much faster and twice as large, backside cache that is
mounted on the cpu. Even a 266mhz Sonnet ($299) or 233 mhz card will run
volumes faster than the cache increased set up. The other items that can
speed up are an AVcard (hard to find now) to upgrade video performance.
Otherwise I would sell my 6100 add the 299 that I would have spent on an
upgrade card and buy an iMac 333. It is much faster that the sonnet
upgrade scenario. You get a current operating system and a new (huge by
comparison) hard drive and faster cdROM etc.

been turned off." PC Help response?
