Subject: [*] BertrandFAT11.sit.hqx

Bertrand 1.1 - a symbolic logic problem solver for the MacIntosh.
Shareware ($30 for an individual license). This FAT version runs in
native mode on both PowerPCs and 680x0 Macs. (Also available in PowerPC
and 68K versions). Includes the Bertie font, a brief manual ("Read Me"),
a license agreement, a program to facilitate the registration process
("Register"), Register's help file ("Register.txt"), and a folder of
example problems.

New in version 1.1: Bertrand now correctly recognizes
identity-reflexivity.

Bertrand is both an educational aid for students of logic and a
practical tool for philosophers, logicians, computer programmers and
mathematicians. Using an algorithm inspired by the "consistency tree"
method found in Leblanc and Wisdom's textbook "Deductive Logic",
Bertrand proceeds by decomposition and instantiation to solve
first-order predicate logic statements for satisfiability, validity,
equivalence, "logical truth" and "logical falsity." Subject-equality is
supported. The program also produces truth-tables for truth-functional
sentences.

During the solution process, Bertrand issues "status reports", giving
the user insight into the method by which Bertrand constructs its tree.
These status reports can be stepped through one at a time, or they can
be turned off entirely to speed up the solution process. Once Bertrand
has solved a given problem, the tree constructed in the process is
displayed in a scrolling window. A summary of results is given in a
separate window. If applicable, a model in the form of a truth-value
assignment to atomic statements is provided. Tree, Truth Table, and
Premise files can be saved or printed, once the program has been
registered.

System requirements: a minimum 1 meg of free RAM is recommended, as is
System 7.1 or higher.

Character Edit Pro is a Realmz character editor with Item Creation. You

and create your own Realmz items. Many changes have been implemented in

Character Edit Pro such as a new stream lined items interface with
incredibly faster item scrolling also the ability to edit characters in

saved games, more editable stats like gold, gems, and jewelry, along
with minor bug fixes here and there. Plus this is the ONLY editor as of

now that will allow the manipulation and creation of Realmz Items. Say

you want to make the "Sword of Ar=EAs +50" or "Golden Cloak of Zeus + 100"
just click away. With the Character Edit Pro's familiar interface most

any Realmz user won't have any trouble editing.

Subject: [*] ClubManager10a

Does your school have a club component in the timetable? Is your club
day or exploratory block overwhelming to organize? If so please read on.

Club Manager is designed by a teacher for teachers and administrators.
It was conceived when our Middle School timetable was modified to
include an exploratory block offered once per week which we call club
day. The intent was to have students chose a quarter year club, four
times per year...and the emphasis was on choice.

FEATURES

1.NO NEED TO TYPE IN NAMES - Imports students names from any school
administration system. 2.ALLOWS STUDENTS TO INDEPENDENTLY CHOOSE - Club
Manager allows students to choose the club they want in a safe, secure,
and confidential manner. 3.NETWORK SAVVY - Allows for students to select
a club from any remote computer connected to the school network or
computer lab. In our school, we registered 180 students in 35 minutes on
a plain AppleTalk network. 4.COMPLETELY CROSS REFERENCED - generates
class lists by club name, teacher advisor group, or entire school
alphabetically. Also generates attendance lists. 5.FLEXIBLE - allows for
all conceivable problems in a school environment including new students,
changed names, adjusting club allocations and de-registering students.
6.EDUCATIONAL - students learn how to do something for themselves and it
only takes a few minutes. 7.SECURE - Club Manager is password protected
and is completely bullet-proof from student harm via the network

Incorporated CD came with a version higher than 1.1 on it, this updater
is unnecessary for you.

This updater fixes many minor bugs in version 1.1, as well as improving
Squad-member AI, making scenery objects less "sticky", and adding
text-based radio messages, so that one can play with the sound off. For

Subject: [*] Johns WP File Manager 2.2.3

This set of enhancements for WordPerfect 3.x includes these macros that
operate on all open files or, if none are open, on all files (or
aliases) in a specific folder:

*Batch Macro Processor: run a macro on every file *Global Find and
Change: change text (and attributes) for all files *Combine all files
into a new one

plus these macros for generally more flexible and powerful file
handling:

*Frequent Filer: a dynamic menu of all files or aliases in a folder, for
quick access. *Workset: opens all files in a folder. *Save and/or print
all open documents with one keystroke. *Rename all files in a folder
(append any string to existing names). *Rename folders according to date
or to day of the week - for rotating backups or other date-relevant
operations.

Free. May be included on UMich and Info-Mac CD's.

Subject: [*] Kaleidesktop Patterns

Kaleidesktop Patterns is a compliment to the great program
Kaleidoscope . I loved Kaleidoscope from the moment I installed it
except for one thing, none of my desktop patterns seemed to match the
different color schemes very well . So I created Desktop patterns to
match each of the different Kaleidoscope 1.5 color schemes. Hope you
like them.

Installation:

Requires the Desktop Patterns control panel (System 7.5 or greater)

1. Open the Kaleidoscope control panel and select a color scheme you
want. 2. Open the Desktop Patterns control panel. 3. Open the
Kaleidesktop Patterns folder, Drag & Drop the matching clipping onto
the Desktop Patterns window, then click the "set pattern" button. 4.
That's all folks.

Subject: [*] QuickChar 1.5.5

QuickChar provides a quick and simple way to access accented characters
or other symbols that are not directly available on your keyboard, as
well as a basic macro facility to help with repetitive typing tasks.

You can create sets of your most frequently used characters to use along
with those supplied. Click and hold with your chosen key combination
anywhere on the screen to display the popup picker, or else use the new
floating picker window, to find and enter the character you're looking
for. QuickChar displays the key combination and ASCII code for
characters to save you time if you prefer to enter them manually. In
QuickChar aware applications you can view the pickers in the font you're
using- useful if you need to find a certain character in a Dingbats
font, for example. This task is made easier by allowing fonts such as
these to be displayed at an enlarged size if you wish.

Version 1.5.5 incorporates the 1.5.1a upgrade, and has been extensively
tested on many Macs. Other minor enhancements other than the main ones
described above are present, and a copy of the SDK is included for
programmers who may wish to add QuickChar support to their applications.

QuickChar is PowerPC and 68K native, and runs on any post-7.0 system.

thanks for your help, Alastair Matthews

Solitaire Till Dawn is the premiere card game collection for the
Macintosh. Version 3.1 contains 31 different games, including favorites
such as Klondike, Golf, Pyramid, Canfield, Forty Thieves, and Spider,
along with other more exotic games and even a few created expressly for
Solitaire Till Dawn itself.

This release adds the game "The Towers" and fixes a few bugs, including
one that could cause a crash at startup and one that sometimes prevented
profiles from being correctly saved. It also contains these features
from earlier versions: beautiful professional graphics including many
different window backgrounds and card designs, "smart cards" that zoom
to their destinations with a single click, unlimited undo and redo of
moves, the status bar that shows your progress and statistics at a
glance, early win notification, Am-I-Stuck, "Magnetic Mouse" option for
playing without typing or clicking (great for RSI relief!), and sound
effects.

Subject: [*] Stones II - The Mancala Game

Stones II is a shareware game by Nathaniel Tagg.

I have seen this game called Mancala, Ouare, Awele, Ayo and Kalah. I've
seen it marketed under the name Arcana, and heard of a commertial
version called "Sorry". I've heard it referred to as being African.
Mesopotamian, East Asian, or Indian in origin, and seems to come in
almost as many variations as card games do. The game is played all over
the world, by all ages. Children aged 7 and up can play. Although not
intended as an educationaly game, playing reinforces simple arithmetic
skills.

Stones II features full colour and sound, fast and easy play, full
documentation, many game variants, and a selection of computer opponents
varying from the mundane to the unbeatable. Play the computer or a
friend. Stones II will run on any Macintosh computer equipped with
system 7.0 or later and Colour Quickdraw (i.e. any Mac made since the
Mac SE excludeing the PB 100 and the Classic). The game is both PowerPC
and 68k native. It requires 1 Mb of hard drive space, and will run fine
with 1 Mb of free memory.

This game is shareware, $10 American or Canadian, but does not require
registration for full features. This file does not replace Stones
v1.2, which remains freeware.

Trainspotters Puzzle makes fitword crossword puzzles from a chosen
source of words; for example a text file or computer generated 'license
plates'. You can now solve the fitwords puzzles on the screen.
Registered users get access to complete crossword solutions, and they
can use the program as a tool for making traditional crosswords. You can
print out the puzzles in SimpleText. A fitword puzzle is a type of
crossword where you get all the solution words and it's your task to fit
the words into the grid. The program is 'fat'; it runs native on
PowerMacs and also on 68K Macs. It requires System 7 or later.

New in version 2.5: The size of the puzzle solving window and text fonts
have been increased. A variant of the original fitwords puzzle called
solitaire fitwords puzzle, which also can be solved on the screen, has
been added.

Subject: [*] Ultimate Blackjack(tm) 1.3.1

Ultimate Blackjack is designed to provide the feel of a gambling casino
with realistic card dealing at a table with six players whose chips move
across the table when hands are won or lost. The user can learn to play
Blackjack better, by having a hint window displayed if an incorrect play
is made, or having the problem deal only specific types of hands, like
pairs or soft hands, so these can be practiced directly. Card counting
can also be practiced.

Going beyond the standard casino games, Ultimate Blackjack can show how
much money a particular strategy will win (or lose) in Las Vegas, and
even draws a histogram showing the distribution of outcomes. The
statistical package tracks the payoff on each card combination to
understand the best play.

You can even experiment with two artificial intelligence routines, the
genetic algorithm and learning agents, to see if a computer can learn to
play Blackjack. Good Luck!

Ultimate Blackjack is a shareware program and includes a 42 page
electronic manual.

Hi folks,

Does anyone have an idea if there are any SGML tools for the Mac? I'm
not looking for anything fancy, mind you, just a simple browser, or
something to convert SGML to HTML or to plain text or to some other
format more common on the Mac.

(I understand that recent versions of FrameMaker do SGML, but getting
FrameMaker just for SGML would be a bit of an overkill, wouldn't it?)
